Two hours later, Maëlle couldn’t believe she was still sitting in the hospital parking lot in a dark section hidden away with Quinn.

“Quinn, I don’t understand all of this secrecy.”

“I have to take precautions; it could be that we were followed.”

“Are you serious? Or just crazy?”

Quinn glanced in the rear-view mirror. “I’m not crazy. Are you… Crazy?”

Maëlle rubbed her brow. “You should know. If crazy exists, you’d be the King.” There was no doubt in her mind that Quinn knew more than he was telling her. “What the devil is really going on? Are you telling me the truth about Lucy and the baby?”

He waited for a moment and checked the mirrors again on the car. “Okay, here’s the only other information I know about Lucy. She used to come down and see me every so often. She was messing around with some guy she met while she was staying in Paris.”

“Lucy lived in Paris?”

“Paris, Illinois. She said she thought the guy said that he was from Chicago, but he grew up in some small town outside of New Orleans. Anyway, the guy was worse than I’d ever been to her.”

“Hmm, worse than you Quinn. The guy must have been a real shit.”
